Such a great time yesterday. There were 9 of us.

We started at 10 and I left at 3:30 with four remaining sketching soldiers ( :) manny)

I had one last sketch at church once I left. It's hard to stop after being submersed in all of that creativity.

Hopefully those locally can come to the next crawl or meetup.

Check out meetup.com or rochestersketchcrawl.blogspot.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif; font-size: large;">Wednesday September 12th 7:00PM
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Based in the discussion feedback over at Meetup, we'll start weekly Wednesday meetups.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Thanks to Jennifer for the suggestion of Boulder Coffee on Alexander and their Wednesday open mic night.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I was thinking we'll switch locations every month so we don't get too bored.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">So, Boulder for September and we can pick an October location as we get closer.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">If we find a month is to long for one local we can always rotate weekly.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Please post location suggestions if you have them.
Sunday, June 10: 9:30am to 4pm.

ERA @ RYP + Landmark Society: Annual House & Garden Tour
RSVPs to nicole@insitearch.com ASAP. Final call due by Tuesday, June 5.
The Rochester Young Professionals will be volunteering at the Stone-Tolan House throughout this year's Garden Tour.
ERA will be taking the Sunday morning shift, from 9:30am to 1:30pm. We'll welcome guests to the house and share our passion for Rochester architecture. (RYP will share a few pertinent facts about the house with each volunteer).
We'll then break for lunch and take our second Sketch Crawl around the grounds of properties included in the tour!
Volunteers will receive complimentary admission to the tour - we are looking for 6 to 8 individuals. We'd love to have unlimited additional folks join in the Sketch Crawl by purchase of a regular House & Garden Tour pass.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-463216474916830806.post-14434978363880993902012-01-03T11:55:00.001-08:002012-01-03T12:14:45.880-08:00Better late than never, resolve to draw with us THIS Saturday if you can...
OK friends, your Rochester Sketchcrawl hosts (Rachael & Genine) have been planning on being better with calling these get-togethers but then...well... life gets in the way, as you can see from the photo. You hang there or check out other parts of the market. As usual, there is no charge to participate.

As an aside, I just returned from Portugal where I attended the three day Urban Sketching Symposium (http://symposium.urbansketchers.org/) which culminated with the 32nd World Wide SketchCrawl. There were approximately 300 people sketching and painting in the Praco do Commercio. The energy that surrounds a group of people (large or small) who share the same passion for creating is infectious and inspiring. So come out and take a break from the week you will be glad you did.

If you have questions, drop a comment here or shoot us an email: Genine at g9@rochester.rr.com or Rachael at rachaelbaldanza@yahoo.com

SEE YOU ON THURSDAY!!

-Genine

*The South Wedge Farmers Market brings fresh, local sustainably-grown foods to the South Wedge and nearby neighborhoods every Thursday, 4-7 pm, from June 2 through October 20. This lively, popular community gathering spot also offers live music, community groups, and activities for kids in the shade of the big trees behind Boulder Coffee at the corner of Alexander and S. We meet/start in one location with the option to “crawl” to others. This is part of Worldwide Sketchcrawl #31 and we hope to gather some donations or those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan (see more about that at www.sketchcrawl.com and http://give2asia.org/artistshelp).

Kids are always welcome, no instruction is provided, nobody tells you what to draw or how to draw it, it never costs a dime, and there are not a lot of rules (play nice is about the only one!)… Join us and draw!
Drawings above by Genine C. and Rachael B. and
Rochester Sketchcrawl organizers, made at past Sketchcrawl type events.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-463216474916830806.post-66721576877839209772011-02-09T10:38:00.000-08:002011-02-09T10:46:51.326-08:00SketchCrawl Sunday February 20thHello out there it is SketchCrawl time again here in Rochester.

Sunday February 20th 10:30am

We are going to start out the day at Jembetat Cafe/ Gallery on Park Ave. They have a ton of Tribal Art from Central and West Africa. We can pick a night / location and leave it open. If you (or we) want to meet up and sketch come on out. If not no worries. Hopfully we can get a good group going. The plan (or at least mine )is get out, sketch more and build a larger sketching community. I'm planning on scanning or somehow finding a way to post a picture or two but maybe anyone who took some can email me or Genine...

Anyway, in the meantime, we are SKETCHCRAWLING again! Saturday August 14th is an International Sketchcrawl date (I think #30 but I could be wrong) we will meet at the Canoe Launch/Boat house part of Genessee Valley Park at 10 am. The park is a really neat, complex mix of riverside park-i-ness and should provide ample spots to draw. There's a map of the park here (http://www.monroecounty.gov/Image/GeneseeValleyPark(1).pdf ) and we'll have some spare materials for the absolute newbies...but plan on bringing a sketchbook and a friend (oh and sunscreen, waterbottle, etc.).

We'll meet rain or shine and then plot a rain location if indeed it is super wet...

See ya then!Rachael Baldanzahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01105968370716289709noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-463216474916830806.post-41767505724516757312010-07-28T10:18:00.000-07:002010-07-28T10:25:29.655-07:00Friday August 6thPlease join us Friday August 6th at ROCO for:

State of the City-Opening Reception:Aug 6,2010 6-10pm

Public Participatory Drawing/ Sketch Crawl: Aug 6, 4 - 10pm Contribute to the exhibition and share your vision

State of the City is a group exhibition featuring Trevor Flynn, Amy Casey and Spectres of Liberty. As part of the crawl, go to Visual Studies Workshop (31 Prince St.) where artist Karen Brummund will be installing a drawing to scale on the façade of their historic building. Unique sketch paper will be provided to sketchcrawlers on-site as part of the exhibition at VSW. Participants will be encouraged (but not required) to add their drawings to the State of the City Exhibition. You do not have to be an experienced artist to contribute.

Amy Casey
Casey's paintings "document [her] love of both the urban landscape, and small twisted creatures." Casey's small detailed paintings present fantastical and impossible urban landscapes. These intriguing and scary rust belt zones residential and industrial structures take on personality, muster their collective humanity and seem to be fighting for their own life. From what? Though optimism and playfulness can be found, it all seems to be teetering on the brink. It is no surprise that Casey's work is "inspired by natural and unnatural disasters, personal fiascoes and the never ending stream of bad news coming in from the media..."

Spectres of LibertySpectres of Liberty is an on-going public, hybrid media project by Dara Greenwald, Josh MacPhee, and Olivia Robinson in collaboration with Art School in the Art School (Joanna Spitzner). Their practice combines expanded cinema, relational aesthetics, situated and community practices, as well as media such as digital animation, video, inflatable sculpture, web, text, and print. Spectres of Liberty considers the history of the movement to abolish slavery in the United States and the presence of this history in Upstate NY today. Spectres of Liberty will present sculpture and documentation from their recent works in Troy, NY and Syracuse, NY.

We hope to see you there!!!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-463216474916830806.post-78136490563763488012010-06-23T06:18:00.000-07:002010-06-23T06:21:45.469-07:00Sketchcrawl on June 26th PostponedSorry for the late notice but we need to post pone the upcoming sketchcrawl. British artist trevor Flynn leads a lively discussion based on his work and study of innovators as they generate and develop ideas. Flynn is a major instigator of drawing and idea generation within the creative industries and education. His ideas have been honed through participation in england’s Big Draw, his own Sketchmob uK, and courses his company (Drawing at Work http://www.drawingatwork.co.uk/ ) develops for architects and engineers. Flynn’s talk traces the process of successful designers, engineers, architects and artists, in a creative cycle of imaginative observation, transformation, and application of new ideas in artifacts and products. the talk richly illustrates creative processes used to visualize forms that do not already exist.
Sponsored by the Cecile Bauer Kluge Creative Workshop Endowment Fund and presented in collaboration with the Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) State of the City 2010 Exhibition (August 6–September 19).

Classes
Friday, June 18, 9 am–noon Or Saturday, June 19, 1–4 pm Fee: $35 (non-member), $30 (MAG or roco member)

"Drawing with trevor Flynn: Provoking New Ideas."
